Before you call: stay safe

  • ✓Stay well back from any tree touching or near a power line. Assume the line is live, and call 911 and your local electricity utility.
  • ✓Keep everyone away from hanging limbs and partly fallen trees — they can shift without warning.
  • ✓Don't try to cut a tree that is under tension or resting on a structure.
  • ✓If it's safe to do so, take photos of the damage for your records and your insurance company.

How It Works

What happens when you call

  1. 1

    Call us directly

Tell us where you are, what has come down and what it's touching. Photos help if you can take them safely.

  2. 2

    Make it safe

The first priority is the immediate hazard — the tree on the roof, the limb over the door, the trunk across the driveway.

  3. 3

    Clean up

Once the danger is gone, the fallen wood and debris are cleaned up.

  4. 4

    Check what's left

Storms often weaken neighbouring trees too. We'll point out any that may need removal or pruning before the next storm.

Local Knowledge

Storm season in cottage country

Weather in Muskoka, Parry Sound and along Georgian Bay can turn quickly. Summer thunderstorms and downbursts can bring down trees in minutes, freezing rain coats branches in heavy ice, and wet spring and fall snow weighs down limbs that are still holding leaves or needles.

Thin soils over the Canadian Shield mean many trees here are shallow-rooted. When the ground is saturated, even healthy-looking pines and hemlocks can be pushed over by strong winds.

Many properties in the region are seasonal. If a storm passes through while you're away, ask a neighbour to check on your cottage, and call if trees are down or leaning on buildings.

Areas we serve

  • Muskoka

  • Parry Sound

  • Georgian Bay

Cottages and waterfront properties along the eastern shore of Georgian Bay, where exposed pines grow on granite points and islands.

FAQ

Common questions

When can I reach you?

Our hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm. If a tree has come down or is threatening your home, call +1 705 351 3379 and we'll help as quickly as we can. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 first.

How quickly can you get here?

We respond to storm damage as promptly as possible, but timing depends on where you are, the conditions, and how many calls come in after a major storm. Call and we'll give you an honest idea of when we can be there.

A tree is on a power line. What should I do?

Stay away from it and keep others away. Call 911 if anyone is in danger, and report it to your local electricity utility. A tree in contact with a power line has to be made safe by the utility first.

Will my insurance cover storm damage?

That depends on your policy. Contact your insurance company as soon as you can, and take photos of the damage before cleanup if it's safe to do so.

My cottage is closed for the season. Can you still help?

Yes — call with as much information as you have. Photos from a neighbour or property manager are a big help in understanding what's happened.
